When you think or hear talk of the University of Wyoming sports, you likely think football, men's and women's basketball, women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track & field, men's and women's golf, men's and women's swimming & diving, wrestling, women's soccer, and women's volleyball.

That's a pretty good list of sports to be able to watch, cheer for, and participate in and with around 11,000 students only 400 to 450 are athletes. What about the other 10,600 students?

Many of the students were probably high school athletes, but elected to stay in Wyoming or come to Wyoming to go to school and elected not to play sports, right? Actually, the sports listed above are only the NCAA sanctioned sports. There's a whole list of sports available at UW.

The club sports.

At the University of Wyoming, Club Sports offer students a dynamic and competitive outlet to pursue their passion for athletics while gaining valuable leadership experience. With nearly 20 student-run teams competing at regional, national, and even international levels, the Club Sports Program is built on a foundation of student involvement and personal development. Whether you're looking to elevate your game, challenge yourself in competition, or build lasting connections on campus, Club Sports at UW provide an exciting and rewarding experience beyond the classroom.

There are actually there are more club sports than there are sanctioned sports, and over 500 club sport athletes in Laramie. Club Sports are offered to students, faculty, and staff who meet the eligibility requirements under the rules of each individual club's governing body. Individual clubs require a participation fee that aids in covering the cost of travel, lodging, equipment, and other necessary expenses. Club fees vary depending on the nature of the club. You can learn more about the options available and how to get more information about joining one of the club teams below.

There's also men's hockey, and begin their season around the same time that most of the other fall sports begin. You can check out their schedule, and like their Facebook page to learn more about the team. They also have a YouTube channel where you can stream the games.

Good luck, Pokes! We'll see you on the ice beginning September 12.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
