Victim of Colorado ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Shooting Leaves Behind Eerie Blog About Avoiding Mall Shooting
Details about the victims of the mass shooting in a Colorado movie theater have been scant thus far, but the name of one woman killed in the attack has now been made public — and the details of the days leading up to her death are downright eerie.
Jessica Ghawi, an aspiring sports blogger who’d recently moved to Colorado and went by the name of Jessica Redfield, was one of the dozen people killed when 24-year-old James Holmes allegedly went on a shooting rampage not long after a midnight showing of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ unspooled in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning. And it wasn’t her first brush with violence.
She recently blogged about narrowly avoiding last month’s shooting spree in a Toronto shopping mall, saying she had an “[anxious] feeling that was overwhelming enough to lead me to head outside in the rain to get fresh air instead of continuing back into the food court … The gunshots rung out at 6:23. Had I not gone outside, I would’ve been in the midst of gunfire.”
On Thursday night, Redfield apparently had to talk a friend into going to the movies with her, and as she waited for the film to begin, she playfully tweeted, “Never thought I’d have to coerce a guy into seeing the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises with me.”
Jessica’s brother Jordan later confirmed to his Twitter followers that his sister was among the dead, saying, “This could easily be the worst night of my life. It appears that my sister has been fatally wounded in a mass shooting at a movie premiere in Denver, CO.”
