It's the time of year when bears are awaking from their hibernation, which makes this one of the prime seasons (next to the summer months), to travel to Yellowstone National Park.

A tourist woman recently captured some beautiful video footage of a "mama bear" and her cubs emerging from their den.

This awesome 4-minute video was posted to the official ViralHog YouTube channel along with a caption that read:

According to Wikipedia's entry on bears hibernation, it states:

Bears of northern regions, including the American black bear and the grizzly bear, hibernate in the winter. During hibernation, the bear's metabolism slows down, its body temperature decreases slightly, and its heart rate slows from a normal value of 55 to just 9 beats per minute. Bears normally do not wake during their hibernation, and can go the entire period without eating, drinking, urinating, or defecating. A fecal plug is formed in the colon, and is expelled when the bear wakes in the spring. If they have stored enough body fat, their muscles remain in good condition, and their protein maintenance requirements are met from recycling waste urea. Female bears give birth during the hibernation period, and are roused when doing so.

One of the best things about the video is the tourist seem to be a safe distance from the massive animals, which isn't always the case with Yellowstone tourists.

Yellowstone National Park and the National Park Service advises humans to keep at least a 100 yards distance between yourself and bears at all times.

Safety should always come first.
