Where Was Wyoming’s First Airport?

Did you ever wonder where Wyoming’s first airport was located?

It was in our Capitol City, Cheyenne!

In 1911 aviation was first seen in our great state as a part of an air show during Frontier Days. All accounts say the show was not at all remarkable, but it was an important first step in creating air travel in Wyoming.  The next era in aviation was through the U.S. Postal service, which began delivering mail by air. This was followed by the first passenger flights in the 1920’s.

Cheyenne’s airport would also serve as an important location during WW II, as a testing and training center for the B-17 Flying Fortress.

The airport has also seen its fair share of famous aviators as well, with Charles Lindberg and the “Spirit of St Louis”, Amelia Earhart and Capt. Elroy B. “Jepp” Jeppesen touching down in Cheyenne.
