Wyoming Authorities Request Ruling on Haynes Eligibility
The Wyoming Secretary of State and Attorney General are asking a court to confirm whether former physician Taylor Haynes does or does not meet the residency requirements to run for Governor of Wyoming, and therefore may be ineligible.
The issue was first raised in an article on the website of Wyofile, that contended his ranch, which crosses the Wyoming-Colorado state line, actually shows his residence on the Colorado side. They followed up with one that confirmed their initial findings with Albany County voter roles.
The Albany County Clerk Jackie Gonzales wrote Haynes in 2015 to inform him his residence was not in the state and his voter registration was cancelled.
The Attorney General Peter Michael says in a court filing that he and the Secretary of State have come to the conclusion that Haynes does not meet the residency requirements.
Friday, the Secretary of State, Ed Buchanan issued this release and requested, along with the Attorney General, that the courts to rule on the issue.
Here is the official statement from the Secretary of State's office.
- Does Dr. Taylor Haynes meet the residency requirement to hold the office of governor under Article 4 Section 2 of the Constitution of the State of Wyoming?
- Does the Secretary of State, as Wyoming’s chief election officer, have the legal and statutory authority to act upon issues relating to a candidates’ eligibility?
