A 47-year-old Rock Springs man is behind bars following a 6-hour armed standoff with police on Friday, according to a post on the Rock Springs Police Department Facebook page.

According to the post, the incident began when police tried to arrest Robert Shalata for an outstanding felony warrant. Police say Shalata barricaded himself inside his home, and officers soon learned that he was armed.

The standoff lasted about six hours, according to the post, before the Joint Tactical Response Team was activated.

That team includes members of the RSPD as well as the Green River Police Department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office. The Rock Springs Fire Department was also on the scene to provide medical treatment. According to the post, the "Tactical Response Team used specialized equipment and tactics to safely place Shalata under arrest without any injuries."

According to the Sweetwater County Detention Center Facebook page, Shalata was being charged with additional charges of Interference with a Police Officer and Unlawful Entry Into An Occupied Structure.
