Saturday didn’t feature the same theatrics as Friday. However, it still showcased a young Pokes’ roster that’s maturing and surprising during the early portions of this season.

No. 11 Jore Volk (125) entered the invite seeded fifth and finished fifth. His Saturday included a couple losses to ranked wrestlers – an 8-1 decision to Stanford’s No. 20 Nico Provo and a 4-2 decision to Oregon State’s No. 6 Brandon Kaylor – and a medical forfeit over Michigan’s No. 5 Michael DeAugustino.

No. 32 Gabe Willochell (149) went 1-1 Saturday to finish seventh in a tournament in which he was seeded 12th. He dropped an 18-6 decision to Iowa State’s No. 9 Casey Swiderski before winning the seventh-place match via forfeit over NC State’s No. 5 Jackson Arrington.

Joey Novak (197) closed the invite for Wyoming with an eighth-place finish after being unseeded coming in. He dropped two matches Saturday to a pair of ranked wrestlers – pinned by Nebraska’s No. 9 Silas Allred and a 14-7 decision to Stanford’s No. 13 Nick Stemmet.

Wyoming as a team compiled a 22-21 record in Las Vegas with four upsets. Novak boasted three of those upsets Friday and Volk recorded the other one that same day.

The Cowboys return to dual action and conference play next week. They travel to Missouri for a 6 p.m. dual inside the Hearnes Center.
