Summer temperatures have arrived early in Central Wyoming and we've put together several easy and affordable ways to beat the summertime heat!

There are lots of fun places around Casper that can provide you with plenty of shade and inexpensive opportunities to escape the summer temperatures. We put together several of our favorites and hope you can find one or two to help you cool off as the temperature rises.  Here's to staying cool this summer!

A big hit for our entire staff was a trip to one of the local pools and take a dip to cool off.

You can check out the remodeled Mike Sedar Pool, stop into the Paradise Valley Pool, have waterslides, a picnic area's and more.  Or you can cool down while enjoying splashing around at the Washington Park or Marion Kreiner Park Pools.

In addition to area pools, there are lots of places people can stop and access the river to cool off, just be careful with pets and young children as the river is running high and fast already.  If you're planning to float the river or get in along the banks, always make sure you wear a personal flotation device or life vest and never swim alone.

For swimmer safety, there are several life vest stations located along the Platte River Trails offering loaner life vests and for those wanting to play in the water along the river.  Please be sure to return the life vests for others to use once you're done using them.

Amoco Park (just downstream from the Tate Pumphouse), Morad Park, or take a short drive along the Old Glenrock Highway and visit Edness K. Wilkins State Park (between Casper and Glenrock - State Park Day Use Fees apply).

The Casper Recreation Center offers great indoor swimming and other recreation activities for the whole family.  And if you're downtown you can also cool off in the fountain just across Beech street and on the corner across from the NIC (corner of Beech and Second Street).

Within a short drive from Casper you can find lots of additional opportunities to beat the summer heat - Casper Mountain is a great option with lots of trails for hiking and bicycling as well as shade and at a higher elevation.  Lakes like Alcova and Pathfinder Reservoirs are a few more great options for cooling down this summer and let's not forget about Ayres Natural Bridge (drive down I-25 towards Douglas) all great place for a day trip to cool off.

We hope you'll take the family and some friends and enjoy the summer as many of these locations offer plenty of shade as well as a chance to cool off for little or no money.  Be safe and we hope you have a great summer!
