BLM Cites Man Who Dumped Industrial Trash Near Farson

An employee of a construction company was fined for illegally dumping industrial debris on public land in southwest Wyoming, according to a news release from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

On May 13, a BLM employee found the pile of roofing materials and construction trash on public land near U.S. Highway 191 north of Farson and reported it to the authorities. The next day, Jonah Energy employees also found the trash and reported it, according to the news release from the BLM's Wyoming High Desert District.

“During our investigation we found a water bottle with a name written on it," a BLM law enforcement officer said.

"We tracked that person down and used invoices left at the scene to determine the company responsible,” the officer said. “We learned the trash originated from a contractor working in the Jackson area and traveling back to Colorado through Farson.”

BLM law enforcement identified the person, spoke to him and issued a citation, the officer said. "There are consequences for these actions and we must all work together to keep our public lands clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy safely."

BLM spokeswoman Nikki Maxwell said the bureau's law enforcement is not releasing the name of the offender.

Disposing industrial waste is a misdemeanor and punishable by up to a year in jail and a $100,000 fine.

The BLM complimented Jonah Energy employee volunteers who removed the trash from the area.
