UPDATE: Downtown Casper Lighting Upgrade Is Happening
2nd Street in Downtown Casper is about to have an extra sparkle to it, as the Casper Downtown Development Authority is doing a street lighting project. The project was supposed to begin this week, but due to an unexpected manufacturing and shipping delay.
The delay was brief, and Casper DDA President Melissa Hugget says the project is ready to roll.
We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to deliver this exciting improvement. Projects like this are about more than aesthetics. They’re about enhancing our Downtown, so it feels alive, safe, and inviting for everyone.”
Temporary Closure of 2nd Street begins Tuesday, June 2, to safely accommodate equipment and crews from 6 am to 6 pm for the following streets:
- Tuesday, June 2: Durbin St to Wolcott St
- Wednesday, June 3: Wolcott St to Center St
- Thursday, June 4: Center St to David St
North-South intersections at 2nd Street and sidewalk access will remain open whenever possible, and downtown businesses will continue operating throughout the project. As a reminder, parking is available in the Public Parking Garage.
The Street lighting will add a year-round ambiance to one of downtown's main streets. Tough Guys Landscaping & Lighting of Laramie was selected for the project based on its experience with downtown installations in Wyoming, strong customer satisfaction record, and ability to provide ongoing maintenance.
Because of the delay, there's no timeframe as of right now, but when it happens, there will be some congestion in the downtown area.
Affected blocks will be closed to vehicle traffic during those dates. Sidewalk access will remain open whenever possible, and downtown businesses will continue operating throughout the project. Parking remains available in the Public Parking Garage.
The 2nd Street Tree Lighting Project is a long-term investment in downtown Casper's identity, supporting walkability, extending evening activity, and strengthening the corridor as a destination for community gatherings and local commerce.
The DDA encourages the community to continue supporting downtown businesses during installation and appreciates everyone's patience as this work gets underway. The work will be over before you know it.
With Casper's extremely busy summer lineup of events, concerts, and fun nights out, the new lighting will enhance the experience for everyone downtown. Another great reason to get out and enjoy the city's incredible downtown area.
