Not only is October the month we watch scary movies, carve pumpkins, go trick-or-treating and get a major sugar rush. It's also the month that is set aside to raise awareness to bullying.

October has been National Bullying Prevention Month, since 2006. Bullying is something that most everyone has dealt with throughout their lives and can be devastating. Statistics show that in 2015, 21% of kids 12-18 reported being bullied at school.

Many programs have been created to bring awareness to the seriousness of bullying and the unnecessary affects it has on people, young and old.

One of those programs is Spookley's National Bullying Prevention Month with Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Because Spookley is square and lives in a round pumpkin world, the other pumpkins in the patch make fun of him. Then one day him being different saves the day.

The official bullying prevention spokes-pumpkin, Spookley, helps bring awareness to the importance of not bullying others and treating others the way you want to be treated. Parents and teachers are encouraged to let Spookley help you teach kids about bullying and to take the anti-bullying pledge.

I pledge to:

SPEAK UP when I see bullying, REACH OUT to others who are bullied, and BE A FRIEND whenever I see bullying

Spookley's adventures and good deeds, have inspired many kids to help stop  bullying, through his movies, books, songs and a even a musical.
