Traffic will be an issue for anyone traveling on West First Street in Casper today. WYDOT will be working to repair the area between Poplar and the North Platte River Bridge.

Look for the construction to affect drivers during the morning rush through mid-afternoon, as each direction will be reduced to one lane during this time. The good news is that this is a one-day project, and things should return to normal on Wednesday.

Changing your usual travel route can help reduce congestion and alleviate your frustrations.

2025 has been a big year for road construction in that area, with the stretch of Poplar between First and Collins Drive undergoing construction most of the year. It will all be worth it when the projects are completed in this high-traffic part of Casper.

Another area to avoid, if possible, is Blackmore Road from 2nd Street to I-25. Crews will close both lanes of traffic through July 18 for milling and overlay work.

Road construction is something we've gotten used to in the Casper area, but boy howdy, will things be in great shape when it's all completed?

The I-25 bridge project between Center Street and Poplar is progressing nicely. However, upon completion of this section, work will commence on the section between Walsh Drive and Center Street.

This portion of the project is estimated to begin in 2026 and is expected to continue through 2027. WYDOT engineers say the next part of the project won't be as intense as the Center to Poplar section, because only the McKinley bridge will need to be rebuilt, not multiple bridges like the others.

Engineers are still fairly confident the bridge will be in use for traffic by the end of 2022. The final beams have been placed, retaining walls on each end are nearing completion and crews are preparing for concrete. It's exciting to see the project coming together.
