Chevel Shepherd Talks About What it Was Like Winning The Voice
Chevel Shepherd visited with us about what it was like winning The Voice as a 16-year-old. She also shared her future plans which include making an album with Kelly Clarkson and building a car with her dad.
During her journey from the blind audition to winning The Voice, Chevel performed songs by The Band Perry, The Dixie Chicks and Leann Rimes among others. She did have a personal favorite she preferred.
Chevel: "You know all of them are different from each other. All of them are so fun and I enjoyed every one of them. One of my favorites is "Blue", my original of course...I loved all of them."
Chevel's choice of Kelly surprised many who expected her to pick Blake Shelton's team due to all of his success over the years.
Chevel: "You know I went in initially wanting to choose Blake. Any coach would have been awesome, but something in my gut was telling me to go with Kelly."
Chevel is from a small town in New Mexico and we asked her what made her decide to go after the dream of winning The Voice.
Chevel: "You know, I've always wanted to be on a show like this since I was little. Now here I am and it's just awesome. I took the opportunity and I'm really glad I did."
Chevel is a big fan of Josh Turner and got real excited when I asked her about her preference of performing his songs when she does karaoke. She would be love to do a duet with Josh.
Chevel: "Oh yeah. Definitely. It would be so cool...If he's listening right now, I'd love to do a duet with you, Josh. You're amazing."
It's not just music in the future for Chevel. She plans to build a car with her dad.
Chevel: "Of course, I'm gonna build a Chevelle with my dad, a 1972. For my first car for like school, getting me around and stuff, maybe a Mini Cooper or something like that".
