Longtime local lawyer John Henley will be the new Casper City Attorney on Feb. 20, Mayor Ray Pacheco said in a news release on Friday.

Casper City Council decided to hire Henley during an executive session on Wednesday, Pacheco said.

"We believe Mr. Henley’s work experience, extensive community involvement, and respect from fellow attorneys will serve us well," he said. "He will join an experienced and solid team that already exists in the City Attorney’s Office."

Henley earned a law degree from the University of Wyoming and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He has practiced law and lived in Casper for more than 30 years.

He replaces former City Attorney Bill Luben. City council terminated Luben's at-will contract at the end of August, and named Assistant City Attorney Will Chambers as interim city attorney.
