Wyoming Walmart’s Pickup Changes Could Slow You Down In 2026
When you ask someone about the positive effects of the pandemic of 2020, one of the things they're likely to say is convenience. Day-to-day errands, like grocery shopping, got easier.
Today, you can go on your Walmart app, pick out every item you need to purchase, put it in your virtual shopping cart, and then pay for it. You can have it delivered to your door, or pick up your groceries and be on the road in a matter of minutes.

I'm a big fan of the pick-up option. With a click of a button, you can choose if you're going to the Eastside or Westside Walmart, and then you're virtually grocery shopping.

When your pickup time approaches, you check in to let them know you're on your way, then head to your chosen store. You pull into a parking spot, click that you've parked on the app, and boom, here comes the Walmart associate with a cart full of the groceries you picked. You didn't have to battle the crowds of the store, you didn't have the impulse buys, and you didn't have to suffer through the agony of the checkout line.

In 2026, the pick-up option will add another step and may add extra time if you're not prepared. It's not a big change, but you should know about it.
Your store pickup will now require a Walmart associate to scan a barcode on your phone before placing the items in your vehicle.
For the fastest pickup experience:
- Before you head to the store, check in on the Walmart app by clicking I'm on my way in your purchase history or order details.
- Once you arrive at the store, follow the check-in instructions. Once completed, a barcode is provided.
- After checking in, you can reaccess the barcode by clicking Show barcode on your purchase history or order details.
- Show the barcode or PIN to the associate when they bring your items. That's it - you're good to go!
According to an email I received from Walmart:
Walmart is implementing this digital handshake to ensure you receive orders accurately and efficiently, and is part of our commitment to providing you with the highest level of service.
Again, it's not a big change, but sometimes if you're in a hurry or having a frustrating day, this could add to your frustrations.
