Denny Hamlin Remains Hospitalized with Back Injury [VIDEO]
Lots of people are talking about Tony Stewart punching Joey Logano after the Auto Club 400. Some say Stewart's a bully, some say Logano had it coming. Before you decide, know that Denny Hamlin is seriously injured from Logano's actions.
More important than Stewart punching Logano in the face, and more than Kyle Busch winning the Auto Club 400. Denny Hamlin received serious injuries in a last lap crash.
Denny Hamlin has a L1 compression fracture following his collision with the inside wall after Logano spun him on the last lap of Sunday's Auto Club 400.
Logano is just a 22-year-old boy, and trying to run a feud with Denny, a veteran driver and former teammate. (Makes no sense when people already like him.) The two drivers had an last-lap incident last week in Bristol and it's no secret that Joey wasn't real happy when Joe Gibbs Racing cut him loose in the off season for Matt Kenseth. For the record, Hamlin apologized to Logano for Bristol, and Joey didn't want to hear it.
After the race at Auto Club Speedway Joey had this to say,
He probably shouldn’t have done what he did last week, so that’s what he gets."
In fairness, he may not have known that Logano had been airlifted from the speedway for his injuries when he said that, but it is obvious he meant to wreck him.
Now, consider all that... THEN make your decision on whether or not Tony Stewart is a bully for getting physical with Logano.
While wanting to hold a grudge against Hamlin, and trying to carry on that feud, he has pissed off one of the big dogs now. A dog known to bite, Tony Stewart.
Stewart said,
After he threw the water bottle at me like a little girl, we’ll go at it now. I’m not going to listen, I don’t care what he has to say. It’s just words right now. Actions speak louder than words.”
This is a kid that Stewart tried to take under-wing at the beginning of his career at Joe Gibbs Racing. Logano even took the wheel of the #20 Home Depot car when Stewart left JGR.
Denny is expected to recover, and his fans hope it's quickly. Denny reached out with a message and pic on twitter...
Racing legend Arie Luyendyk tweeted
@dennyhamlin is lucky to survive that crash and @joeylogano is lucky to survive @tonystewart"
So, at the beginning of the 2013 NASCAR officials said to the drivers, "have at it", and that's what they are doing. Though it usually ends up in fines, suspensions, etc...
We want your opinion on the Stewart / Logano incident...
Here are the post race/fight interviews...
(We hope for a speedy recovery for Denny Hamlin... he may have to sit out Martinsville on April 7th, but we are hoping he will be back on the track at Texas Motor Speedway.)
