If your attic, garage, or basement looks like an old appliance or electronics store, it probably looks that way because you're not sure what to do with all that outdated, broken junk.

That's ok, it's a common issue.

Maybe you've heard the term e-waste, but weren't sure what it means. Again, that's ok, many people are in the same boat. The City of Casper's definition of E-Waste, or Electronics Waste, is components and equipment, such as computers, monitors, keyboards, televisions, cellular telephones, and personal devices that contain hazardous materials.

Electronics waste is broken down into three categories:

  • PC (personal computer), Laptops, and hard drives
  • Mix/ Multi-functional general devices, like old DVD, DVR, VCR, fax machines, computer keyboards, mouse, printers, radio, remote control, speakers, battery backup units, batteries, modems, projectors, typewriters, cell phones, network equipment, or gaming consoles.
  • TVs, Monitors, or arcade games.

I know many of you just perked up, because you likely have many of those items that you didn't know how to get rid of. Luckily, Casper has an e-waste recycling program to help make life easier for you.

You can dispose of e-waste at the Casper Regional Solid Waste Facility located at 1886 Station Road for free.

  • If you have rechargeable batteries (computers, phones, toys, power tools, etc), you'll need to drop them off (for free) at the hazardous waste area.
  • For the larger electronic items, you'll take them to the baler building

If you have a larger amount of e-waste to dispose of, there are also companies you can work with to help you take care of it all. There are also battery-disposal locations at some stores in the Casper region.
