Douglas Soccer Team Uses Practice Time To Clear Neighborhoods

This last big snow storm forced the Douglas High School boys soccer team to practice indoors.

Then, after the storm, it was time to go out and help the community.

Shovels in hand players and coaches walked the neighborhoods clearing sidewalk in front of people's homes and apartments.

Think of this as a random act of kindness.

As with most towns residents are responsible for removing the snow on the sidewalk in front of their own home.

This time the team did it for them, just because.

“We’ve done this in the past, and the time was just right for us to finish practice and walk some neighborhoods today,”DHS soccer coach Clay Ewing said. “It’s a chance for the boys to help people out while giving back to their community.”  (Douglas Budget).

There is a lot of good happening here.

This connects the people of the town to the team.

This helps people are are not as able to move snow as they once were. Some people are just so busy it's hard for them to get to the task.

This also helps the young people on the team think about doing good deeds for neighbors.

There is a lot a young person can lean from a work day like this.

Call it character building, if you will.

It's also a great workout for the team, and spots teams like to keep in shape any way they can.

Add this to the list of reasons to be proud to be from a state like Wyoming and a community like Douglas.
