Great Tip All Wyoming Drivers Need For Towing A Trailer
There are some pretty intimidating tasks you may have to do in life, and one is hooking up and driving a trailer. Not everyone was raised on a ranch, farm, or hauling a boat to the water, so learning how to pull a trailer may seem overwhelming.
If you don't think you'll ever need to pull a trailer and don't need to know how, because you don't and won't own anything that needs to be put on a trailer, think about this.
If you're moving and need to rent a moving truck and trailer, you'll need to know how to tow a trailer. You don't have to become a trailer-towing pro, but if you have a working knowledge of what to do, you'll be well on your way.
I've shared videos and information from "Dad Advice from Bo" many times, because he's a straight shooter and explains things well enough that anyone can understand what he's talking about.
The best part is, his videos are about a minute in length.
In this video, he not only shows you how to hook a trailer to the tow hitch of a vehicle, but also how to back the trailer up (which is one of the most challenging parts of towing a trailer, especially if you're at the boat ramp and everyone's eyes are on you).
Steps for hooking up a trailer:
- Have the right size ball for the trailer you're hooking to.
- Get someone to guide your vehicle into the proper position to connect the truck and trailer (or use the camera).
- Set your parking brake to prevent your vehicle from moving.
- Release the latch to allow the trailer to sit on the ball.
- Lock the trailer latch onto the ball and place a pin in the hole to keep it from bouncing off.
- Cross your safety chains before hooking them to the vehicle.
- Hook up your light connector and test it to ensure it's working correctly.
- Retract your landing gear as far as it will go.
Watch the video and stay until the end to understand how backing a trailer works, and the easiest way to do it.
