EF-0 Tornado Confirmed in Marbleton; Two Homes ‘Unlivable’

The National Weather Service confirmed late Friday that a tornado touched down in a small Sublette County town earlier in the day, where it left significant damage and forced several people from their homes.

Rated an EF-0, the least severe classification under the Enhanced Fujita scale, the tornado brought maximum winds of 80 mph to the town of Marbleton.

Tim Troutman, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Riverton, told K2 Radio News that the tornado's path was one-tenth of a mile in length with a width of 20 yards.

Two homes were "rendered unlivable" as the tornado moved through Marbleton, according to a statement from the American Red Cross of Wyoming.

The agency says two adults, three children, two dogs and a cat were displaced from a home on Rakestraw Avenue, while two adults were forced from a residence on East Sixth Street.

The Red Cross provided assistance with lodging and other immediate needs for the larger group. The agency was unable to immediately contact the other pair of adults, but said assistance would be provided later.
