Another piece of advice you've heard is to keep your fuel tank at least half full. If you're traveling on Wyoming roads, you know that if you don't fill up when you see a gas station, you could be in trouble, but why does having at least a half-full tank during the winter matter more?

First and foremost, having a full tank reduces the chance that you'll run out of fuel while traveling, and if you were to get stranded, it will keep you warm.
Next, you may've heard that the gas in your tank will freeze; that's not true. The condensation that can form in your fuel line can freeze. When that happens, you can have restricted or blocked fuel flow. Fuel flow issues can affect your car's performance or prevent it from starting.
The more open space, the more air in your tank, and the more moisture in that air. Keeping your tank as full of fuel as possible is your best bet for a better-performing vehicle.
There are additives you can add to assist in keeping the moisture levels down in your fuel tank. Consult an auto parts store or mechanic to learn about the best for your particular vehicle.
