Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

That quote was from the 1986 movie Ferris Buellers Day Off.

It's a quote we should all live by.

I started 2024 by vowing that I wouldn't wish the year away. I find myself saying things like, "This year's moving really fast," "I can't believe we're already at this holiday," or "I can't believe there's only half the year left."

Honestly, I start every year by vowing the same thing. The problem is that it doesn't last. Something about this year is making me feel like I'm on an express train to Christmas.

Life is moving WAY too fast, and I'm trying to stop and look around so I don't miss it.

So, I went down an internet rabbit hole to find out if there were proven ways to slow down the days and feel like life wasn't a blur.

I did find a few things that can help you slow down and appreciate the "here and now."

The list I found is from RamseySolutions.com, and I'll be implementing these suggestions immediately.

9 Ways To Slow Life Down.

  1. Focus on what you Want to Focus on - Multitasking is sometimes great but mostly stresses you out. Spend time figuring out the important things you want to focus on.
  2. Be Present - If you're always rushing to get through your projects or allowing other things to pull your attention away from the important stuff, it's hard to be in the moment.
  3. Cut Down on Phone Time - Most people are addicted to their phones. Scrolling on social media, texting, checking notifications, and experiencing FOMO consume much of your daily time. It's okay if your phone isn't glued to you but lock it away for a portion of the day.
  4. Don't Look Past the People In Front of You - Enjoy time with your family, friends, or significant others without interruption by devices or other obstacles that make time fly by.
  5. Focus on Not Driving Too Fast- Slowing your life by not driving too fast may sound odd, but it forces you to slow down physically and mentally.
  6. It's okay to Have Limitations - We all have them and must accept them. You're not a Superhero. You can't be in two places at once, and you don't have to volunteer for everything. Use the power of the word "NO." It will do wonders for you.
  7. Have Fun and Enjoy it - Life is too short not to have fun. Schedule a vacation, and take it. Set time aside for fun activities and do them.
  8. Silence Is Golden - We're all wired to go, go, go, but stopping and doing nothing is okay. Schedule quiet time for yourself, and don't let anything stop you from getting that time.
  9. Dear Diary - You may have kept a journal or diary as a kid; experts recommend you restart the habit. Reflect on the day and see if there are things you do that can help in your mission to slow life down.

Focusing on life a little more will help your mental and physical health and make you more productive. Clear your mind by going fishing, hiking, camping, riding, or driving. It'll be good for you and the people around you.

Safety should always be your first concern. If it doesn't seem like a good situation, it's ok to pass and wait for something else.
