Interesting Fact About The Wyoming National Guard’s Awesome Uniform
One of the greatest honors a person can have is putting on a military uniform and proudly wear the stars and stripes on their sleeve.
If you weren't in the military, you may not have noticed anything about those uniforms, and that's the US Flag patch on the sleeve.
Sure, you've probably seen it and may have noticed that it looks different than most pictures or the flag.
It's not facing the same way as normal pictures of the flag.
Always Moving Forward
The "reverse" flag on U.S. military uniforms holds deep symbolic meaning, representing a forward-moving mentality and honoring tradition. Dating back to the U.S. Civil War, flag bearers would charge into battle with the stars of the flag leading the way, signifying progress and advancing forward. This tradition continues today, with the American flag patch on military uniforms worn on the right shoulder, stars facing forward, giving the appearance of the flag flying in the wind as the soldier moves forward.
Now you know if you've seen the arm patch and wondered why it wasn't right. The next time you see a member of the Wyoming National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines, take a look at their arm patch and know that they're always moving forward.
The US Armed Forces have a lot of cool history, and I've always wondered about the flag patch. Maybe you'll impress someone with this little tidbit of information.
