New No. 1 ranked teams in the boys’ divisions highlighted the latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Polls on Wednesday. Last week’s second-ranked teams, Kelly Walsh in 4A and Torrington in 3A, both moved up to the top spot. In 3A girls’, an unranked team jumped to No. 2 in the poll.
WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER RANKINGS APRIL 17, 2024
Despite one less vote for No. 1, the Kelly Walsh Trojans moved up to first in the 4A boys’ poll thanks to more second-place votes. KW received five first-place votes compared to Cheyenne Central’s six, but the Indians got only three second-place votes, so the Trojans are the new top-ranked team. Central fell to second. Jackson was steady in third. Sheridan traded spots with Thunder Basin. The Broncs’ head-to-head win over the Bolts last week pushed them to fourth and dropped the Bolts to fifth.
In 3A boys, a head-to-head win last Friday night led Torrington to take over the top position from Worland. The Blazers garnered eight of the 12 first-place votes. The Warriors dropped to second. Green River defeated two ranked foes last week and climbed up to third. Both Cody and Powell lost to the Wolves and dropped a spot each. The Broncs are now fourth, while the Panthers fell to fifth.
NOT AS MANY CHANGES IN THE GIRLS SOCCER RANKINGS
Cody kept the top spot in the 3A girls’ rankings. The Fillies picked up seven of the 13 first-place votes. Lander has won three straight games over ranked opponents. They vaulted from unranked to second. The Tigers received six first-place votes. Worland dropped to third, and Green River fell to fourth. Douglas remained at No. 5.
Kelly Walsh kept the top spot in 4A girls’ soccer. The Trojans earned nine of the 15 first-place votes. Jackson and Laramie stayed in second and third in the new poll. Campbell County moved up one spot to fourth. That pushed Natrona County down to fifth.
