Bigger Changes in the New WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll
For the first time this season, there was a switch at the top of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll.
The new rankings also featured two new teams, a tie, and two divisions that didn’t change.
Little Snake River, Pine Bluffs, Lyman, and Cheyenne East kept their No. 1 ranking.
That means the change was in Class 3A. Both the Cody Broncs and Star Valley Braves received 14 first-place votes, but it was the Broncs at the top. Cody earned more second-place votes, which pushed them to No. 1. The Braves fell just one spot to second. The rest of the top five stayed in the same order. Powell was third, Douglas fourth, and Buffalo was fifth. Four of the top five play each other on Friday night.
Class 2A had the tie and one of the new teams joined the poll this week. Lyman kept the top spot. The Eagles got 13 of the 20 first-place votes. Mountain View was second for the second consecutive week. Tongue River moved up one position to third. Big Horn and Cokeville tied for fourth. The Rams slid up one spot, while the Panthers entered the poll for the first time this season.
Class 1A 6-man was the other division with a new team. Little Snake River garnered all but one first-place vote. Encampment climbed to second and earned one first-place vote. Dubois fell to third, and Burlington held at No. 4. Six-man’s newest team, Casper Christian, made its debut in the rankings in fifth.
Class 4A and Class 1A 9-man did not change.
In 4A, Cheyenne East got 13 of the 17 first-place votes. Sheridan earned the other first-place votes and stayed at No. 2. Thunder Basin barely kept third by three points over Natrona County. Cheyenne Central remained fifth.
9-man hasn’t changed since the preseason poll. Pine Bluffs held the No. 1 ranking with 12 first-place votes. Big Piney, Wind River, Southeast, and Lingle-Ft. Laramie held their positions in the poll.
