DECISION TIME – Wyoming’s Primary Is One Week Away

This article is being written on 8/11/2026. That is exactly one week away from primary election day in Wyoming.

Early voting is going on now. It is as simple as going down to your county clerk's office and casting a ballot today. This avoids the lines next Tuesday.

To find out who is running for what office in your area, just look up your county clerk's office online and ask for a sample ballot. Or stop by the clerk's office and pick up one in person.

Wyoming no longer allows switching parties on primary election day. This is the day that each party selects its candidate for the general election. Since so many in Wyoming are registered with the GOP, many voters have switched parties in the past to vote in what they saw as the actual election date in August. The actual election day is Tuesday, November 3rd.

As Wyomingites know, most of the state's elections are settled on primary day since so many of the state's citizens are registered Republicans.

About 75% of registered voters in Wyoming are registered as Republicans. General public opinion and state surveys show that roughly 50% to 62% of all adults in the state identify as Republicans, depending on registration versus self-identification data. (Independent Voter Project).

In many races, from the local level on up to statewide office, there is only one person on the ballot, and that person is usually a registered Republican.

This does not mean that everyone running under the GOP banner is actually a conservative, and many registered Republicans are also not conservative. They are just registered as GOP since it is, by far, the biggest party in the state.
