According to a fatality crash summary, the foursome was headed north in a Toyota Avalon when the driver struck an elk in the roadway.

"The vehicle exited to the right and started a passenger-side leading skid," the summary reads. "It then struck a second elk and then rolled before coming to an uncontrolled stop on its roof."

Sadly, one of the passengers, Sammantha Brooks, who was not wearing her seat belt, didn't survive her injuries.

The other two passengers and the driver were also reportedly injured in the crash, but the Patrol didn't say to what extent.

Speed, Driver Fatigue/Asleep Possible Factors

The summary lists speed and driver fatigue/asleep as possible contributing factors.

Brooks is the 59th reported person to die on Wyoming's highways this year.
