Fort Caspar Museum and its support group, the Fort Caspar Museum Association (FCMA), announce their winter Lunch & Learn Program which will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Lecturer Heyward Schrock will present “J.E. Stimson’s 1903 Snapshot of Wyoming” in conjunction with the Museum’s current photography exhibition, “Stimson Colors Wyoming.” The lecture will begin at 1:00 pm and is free with the paid lunch or free with paid museum admission. The optional lunch begins at noon and requires an RSVP.
“Stimson Colors Wyoming” features photographs of Wyoming at the turn of the 20th century. The two dozen hand-colored, black-&-white photographs were created by Cheyenne photographer J.E. Stimson for the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Stimson spent eighteen months traveling the state, photographing ranches, farms, irrigation canals, mines, homes, and natural scenery. His display of Wyoming images was hugely popular and earned him three silver medals. Heyward Schrock will discuss the photographer and examine his approach to documenting Wyoming’s communities, industry, people, and culture as he experienced them over 100 years ago.
Mr. Schrock currently lives in Cheyenne, but he was born in Thermopolis to a family with both ranching and mining backgrounds. He holds a BA and an MA in History with an emphasis on the American West, and he has worked at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, Custer Battlefield National Monument, as well as Fort Caspar Museum. Most recently, he spent eighteen years at the Wyoming State Archives and Museum where the Stimson exhibit was organized. “Stimson Colors Wyoming” will remain on view at Fort Caspar Museum through February 23, 2013.
Schrock’s lecture begins at 1:00 pm and is open to the public. The lecture is free with the optional paid lunch, or guests who choose not to join us for lunch may attend the lecture free with paid museum admission. Lunch begins at noon and features an entrée of pasta, green salad, bread, desserts, and beverages with an RSVP. The cost for lunch is $5 for museum members and $8 for non-members, which includes museum admission and is payable at the door. Please call 235-8462 to RSVP for the luncheon by Thursday, January 17th.
