Martina McBride Unveils New Songs During ‘CMT Unplugged’ Special [VIDEO]
We’ll have to wait until October 11 to hear Martina McBride‘s new album ‘Eleven,’ but she gave fans a sneak preview of her new material while taping a CMT special this week.
‘CMT Unplugged: Martina McBride’ aired Wednesday night, and nestled between the hits in her set list, she shared some of her favorite songs from the new album, in addition to a cover of Sara Bareilles’ ‘Love Song.’
Telling the audience that “It just says a lot of things that I’ve never heard sung before in a song,” McBride performed the new track ‘Gonna Love You Through It,’ inspired by the story of a woman’s battle with breast cancer. In McBride’s words, “It’s just really powerful.”
Another new song, ‘Always Be This Way,’ came out of a songwriting session in which one of McBride’s partners suggested a lyric with the word “stupid” in it. “I said, ‘Let’s do it. Why can’t we put stupid in a song? I love the word stupid,” explained McBride.
McBride also unveiled the ballad ‘Whatcha Gonna Do,’ explaining to the audience that “I think it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever recorded. I just really love it.” Watch clips from the show below, and watch for repeat airings on CMT.
