The National Weather Service in Riverton urges residents of central Wyoming to be cautious when their traveling and be aware of possible property damage now that it has issued a high wind warning in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

Strong winds will blow on along Wyoming Boulevard on the south side of Casper into the mid-afternoon Sunday before gradually decreasing through the evening.

But it won't be over because high winds from 35 mph to 45 mph will resume Monday morning across much of the area.

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

The Weather Service cautioned travelers across the area to be alert for strong
to high gusts and dangerous crosswinds, including along Interstates 80 and 25 and south Casper.

The area of strongest winds will extend from Sweetwater County to Natrona County. Neighboring Fremont and Johnson counties can expect very gusty winds Monday afternoon.

Elsewhere, the National Weather Service reports winter weather advisories and watches for portions of western Wyoming on Sunday and Monday.

A winter storm watch is in effect for portions of western Wyoming where moderate to locally heavy snow will fall in the western mountains and far west valleys during the Monday morning. The snow will combine with gusty wind to produce blowing and drifting snow until early afternoon.

A high wind watch is also in effect for much of southwest and central Wyoming from Monday morning into Monday evening. Westerly winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 50 to 65 mph will be possible.
