Nicolaysen Art Museum to Feature 4 New Exhibits from Wyoming Artists

The Nicolaysen Art Museum will open four new exhibitions from artists Linda Ryan, Anton Fox, Amber Marie, and a Members Exhibition of the Casper Artists’ Collective.

An opening reception is scheduled to be held at the NIC on April 8 starting at 5:30 p.m., with pieces by Fox and Marie being displayed until September and the two others lasting until July, when the NIC plans on displaying pieces by Native American artists.

Ryan’s exhibition is titled Evolving Exploration, with a selection of her pieces being available for purchase to benefit Mimi’s House and the NIC.

Ryan said in an Artist Statement, which each artist included on the NIC's website describing their artwork, what their piece means.

"I make art to find out what it’s going to look like. The process of discovery is what motivates me," Ryan said. "My work reflects my love of the phenomenal world and all that it has to offer both visually and tacitly. I love the physicality of materials, objects, and all that surrounds me, both natural and manufactured."

Fox, who retired from the Casper Fire Department, has an exhibition titled All the Right Angles and said in their artist statement:

"It’s the duality of things that I like. I like the straight line, it has a beauty of its own that can show you from the complex to the very simple,” Fox said. “For me, abstracting and condensing a painting to its line, color, shape, and space can give it both a sense of ambiguity with clarity at the same time."

Marie’s exhibition is titled Phases, which includes pieces with colored pencils and acrylic paint on wood or paper, and said in their artist statement:

"To just be is a huge act as a woman. To just be what we choose," Marie said. "I want to present them. As they are in any phase of their life. I want to tell their stories, from how they change, how they handled what happened to them, what we are, and what we become."

The Casper Artists' Collective’s exhibition will be the first Members exhibit for this artists’ group with over 40 pieces in this exhibition from 22 artists.

Katie Couch, Director of Communications for the NIC, said that Ryan had planned on being featured in an exhibit in 2020, but because of the pandemic, they had to put it off until this year.

Couch said that they've started to see a better turnout at their events as COVID-19 has become less of a concern.

"I think this reception night will bring a pretty good turnout," Couch said. "We've kind of seen our receptions and our events kind of slowly bouncing back. I think last year we did some stuff and you know you hope for more people but there was still COVID concerns or just unsure. But I think now we're at a point where we're seeing more people excited to participate this way in the community and see art. It's a free night at the museum, so you can come in and see it for the first time and don't have to pay a buck."
