Now Is A Great Time For Wyoming Kids To Take Hunter Ed

Safety should be your number one concern when hunting in Wyoming, and if you're a new hunter, taking a hunter education course is exactly what you need. Actually, it's exactly what you must have.

Wyoming law requires anyone born after 1966 who will hunt in the state to complete a Hunters Safety Course. The only exceptions to this rule are for those with military or law enforcement personnel.

Since the application period will remain open until the end of May, now is the perfect time to enroll and complete the course. Not only is it a requirement to hunt, but it's also in the hunter's best interest to know how to be safe while in the field, use a firearm, transport a gun, and all other aspects of being a responsible Wyoming hunter.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department offers several different options for anyone ready to take a hunter's ed course.

Hybrid and traditional in-person Hunting Safety/Education courses.

Hybrid Courses are perfect for an adult with a busy schedule. Hunters must be at least 10 years old to take the Hybrid courses, and they're done mostly online. You'll be required to finish the online class and then complete a 4-hour in-person completion course.

Traditional Courses are available more often and are held in person. They involve 12-15 hours of instructor-led classes that teach safety, ethics, and skills all hunters will need when hunting in the field.

Whether you take the hybrid or traditional course, the classes are necessary for Wyoming's strong hunting heritage and should be taken seriously. Even if you've been around hunting, shooting, and the outdoors for your entire life, you'll likely learn something new that will be helpful in your future hunts.
