The thought of RV living has crossed my mind for years. When I was younger, my grandparents always had an RV. We'd take weekend trips and extended vacations in it, and when we had a big family gathering, it was added sleeping space.

At one point, Grandma lived in her motorhome for a few years and had many adventures, but there was nothing to tie her down to one location so she could roam freely.

What's not to love about an RV?

Now that I'm older and wiser (ya, right), the idea of RV living appeals to me even more than it did in my younger days. I like to travel around Wyoming and visit different places, and that gets expensive when you rent hotel rooms every night.

Sure, I could take a tent and camp, but the older I get, the more my body cringes at sleeping on the ground in the cold. How great would it be to hook your house up, move it to where you want to stay for the weekend and stay in your home away from home?

I was scrolling through social media and came across Vista Grove RV Park, an RV park outside Casper. The park offers extended stays and monthly rates of $500-$550 plus electricity.

I immediately went into dreamer mode and began looking for an RV to purchase and move into. I'm unsure if you've looked for RVs lately. It's a little overwhelming.

Smith RV, Sonny's RV, RV Trader, and Facebook Marketplace are all resources to find the perfect RV for your needs.

Sure, many styles, sizes, colors, price points, and features are available, but you have to remember that it's not a weekend sleeper; it's the place we'll call home. It has to be large enough to give my wife and me space to be comfortable and stow our stuff, but it can't be too big to be able to tow around for trips.

I started a pros and cons list to help me rationalize the possibility.

PROS

  • Simple Living
  • New Adventures
  • Move Anywhere
  • Cut Down On Expenses
  • Spend More Time in Nature
  • Not Tied Down to One Area
  • Reduce Clutter
  • RV Park Amenities (pools/hot tub/ clubhouse...etc)
  • Internet Capabilities
  • Community Living
  • No Kids, and only 2 of us

CONS

  • Limited Space
  • Extreme Closeness
  • Maintenance
  • Weather Concerns
  • Limited Amenities
  • Wife Loves Bake and Needs Space

My list is just beginning, but the pros outweigh the cons. I'm not sure how this potentially life-changing event will go, but I'd love to hear from you if you've lived in an RV. Shoot me an email to give me your thoughts. Drew.Kirby@TownsquareMedia.com

I turned to YouTube to learn how RV Living works from those who have done it or are doing it.

A Historic Hike To Wyoming's Outlaw Cave

The drive into the canyon is quite the beautiful drive. It's not too far from Kaycee, but you'll need a vehicle with good clearance and suspension. When you arrive to the Outlaw Cave Campground, you're mind is blown from the size of the canyon. The drive and hike are worth every minute spent on the road to get there.
