Recently I found out that that name I-80 actually refers to the number of days out of the year that the Wyoming section of that highway stays open during the year.

I know that story is true because I made it up myself.

This next part you are really NOT going to believe, but I swear it's true!

On Monday, 04/19/21 Wyoming went through a spring storm that lasted all day and covered most of the state. During that entire time, I-80 never closed.

I KNOW- RIGHT?

Oh, I know I write a lot of satire and parody. You're rather used to me pulling your chain. But I'm not this time, I swear.

Imagine the confusion this must have caused.

The director of WYDOT probably called the guy who maintains the website, "It's snowing. Why aren't you showing I-80 as closed?"

Imagine highway patrol officers wondering if the gates are broken. "Why aren't they down? Should we block the ramp?"

I expect there were a lot of truckers lining the sides of the highway ramps and filling the truck stops, waiting for the road to open as soon as the snow stopped. Imagine their shock when they realized the gates never dropped. They probably headed down the highway thinking, 'nobody is going to believe this.'

Conspiracy theorist must be FREAKING OUT! I can't wait to hear what they make of this.

Years from now on THIS DAY IN HISTORY somebody will report, "20 years ago today, it snowed for an entire day in southern Wyoming and I-80 remained open. Conspiracy theorist compare this story to the "faked" landing on the moon, but we have the video.

I'm sending a note to the governor's office. We need a proclamation or something. This is an historic Historic Non-Event.

Snow Crushes Wheatland Wyoming Airplane Hangers

This row of hangars goes back many years. Some history was lost under a crush of snow.

March 21st, 2021. A record-breaking snowstorm had shut down most of Wyoming and was not yet done. Below is a gallery of photos as cleanup continues.

One of the small airports in Platte County, Wyoming is Phifer Airfield on Antelope Gap Road, east of Wheatland. Platte County has the Wheatland airport, along with one in Torrington and Guernsey. They were all shut down in the storm.
