Should the Supreme Court Uphold Arizona’s Immigration Law? — Survey of the Day
This week, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about Arizona’s SB 1070, which makes it a crime to live and work in Arizona illegally, and allows local law enforcement to check people in the state on their immigration status.
While the Obama administration opposes the bill on the grounds it may lead to racial profiling, the American public seems to support it.
In fact, according to a study by Quinnipiac, at least 60 percent of respondents support SB 1070 in every major poll that has addressed the issue in 2012. In the latest poll, taken last week of nearly 2,600 registered voters by Quinnipiac, 68 percent support the measure, whereas 27 percent are against it.
