This is wild, to say the least! A 69 year-old California man has an extraordinary story to pass on. He managed to survive a mountain lion attack with help from the most unlikely of sources...a bear (who just happened to have cubs with her).

Robert Biggs was enjoying a stroll through the Bean Soup Flat area above Whiskey Flats. According to him, he came across a mother bear who was also enjoying a stroll with her yearling and her newborn at about a distance of 40 feet. I think that scene in itself would have inspired most of us to run, play dead, lose our minds, or something. Not Robert! He casually watched them frolic for a little while before continuing on his hike.

Cue the mountain lion, which pounced on Robert's backpack as soon as he turned to make his exit.

"They usually grab hold of your head with all four paws, but my backpack was up above my head and (the mountain lion) grabbed it instead," Biggs said. "It must have been stalking the little bear, but it was on me in seconds."

Mr. Biggs, who obviously deserves the name, fought with the cat, "striking it in the head with a rock pick," which still didn't dislodge the killer cat.

Cue the bear, who must've heard the nearby commotion and finally realized something wasn't quite right. Who really knows what it was thinking when it pounced on the mountain lion, which had pounced on the backpack, which was still securely attacked to Robert Biggs? The video, had there been one, would have gone viral for sure!

Thankfully we can report that the bear managed to pull the cat off the backpack and after the two engaged in a brief nature scuffle, Mr. Mountain Lion ran off, and the bears moved on, too.

Robert explained he'd been doing this same thing for years, even sharing a nice bear tale.

"(The cub) stood up on its hind legs and put its paws up and got to play patty-cake with it," he said. The patty-cake game was simply touching the bottom of its paw with his open palm, more like a high-five. He said the mother watched the two play and her only reaction was to call the cub back. Biggs said he is certain that the mother that saved him during the mountain lion attack is the same bear he has seen in that area before.

Biggs survived with an awesome story and just a few scratch marks, bites, and bruises. He said he wasn't worried though because he "had a tetanus shot a couple of years ago." Thanks to paradisepost.com, where you can read the full account.

And don't worry about Mr. Biggs learning a lesson. His wife says "he doesn't learn."

Oh, you just can't make this stuff up! Or can you? Opinions seem to be mixed. What do you think?
