Road Closures

Road construction and closures is a normal thing in Casper.

The small towns along routes with heavy through traffic have limited resources in terms of parking, fuel, hotel rooms, and other amenities.

It happens every year and means the end of heavy tourist season

The dates have been updated for planned chip sealing on 2nd Street in Casper, from Wyoming Boulevard to Hat Six Road.

NCEM officials have stated that Oregon Trail Road is currently impassable due to snow drifts, and they asked that motorists avoid using Oregon Trail Road as a detour.

The town has been stranded.

Early this morning, at about 1:00 a.m., a WHP trooper took a photo of their patrol car which was absolutely buried in snow.

While road closures can be frustrating, the Wyoming Department of Transportation says ignoring them is not only dangerous it can delay the opening of the roads.

The 8 second video showed complete whiteout conditions on the highway, with very little visibility.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is reminding motorists that if a road is closed, that means don't drive on them.

WYDOT says that I-80 is closed in both directions between Rawlins and Laramie.
