Teton National Park Wants Your Opinion

If you've been to Wyoming's Grand Teton Mountains, you know the GASP you let out as they come into view.

But, you're in traffic, and can't really stop to soak in the view.

What if we had Grand Teton pull-outs?

That might even help clear some traffic.

How about parking your car at Moose Junction and hopping on a bicycle to explore?

Let's face it, there is a lot of congestion and not much room to work with.

Park Superintendent Chip Jenkins would like Wyomingites and visitors to help officials map out the iconic park's future.

"We're trying to get information from people," said Jenkins, "about the kinds of experiences that they would like to have at Grand Teton 10, 15, 20 years from now." (PNS).

If you have ideas you can go online and comment through October 10 at 'parkplanning.nps.gov.'

"So, while the overall total number of visitors in 2022 was similar to 2014," said Jenkins, "we had over a 50% increase in the number of people who were hiking on our trails," he said.

There have been a lot of changes to the park in the past 100 years.

More people and different kinds of machines that those people travel in have shaped the park.

In the 1920s and 30s, Highway 89 was created to help people reach Dubois and Riverton.

In the 1950s and 60s, there was massive investment due to increases in overnight stays.

Now there is growing interest in seeing the park by bicycle.

"It's just a wonderful way to be able to be out on the landscape," said Jenkins. "You'll see many many people like to do it as a family getting together or a group of friends getting together. Of course, E-bikes are opening up all sorts of opportunities for folks."
