For their actions in a shooting incident earlier this year, two Casper Police officers were not only honored by the Casper community, but they were given some of the highest honors they could receive.

Officers Jacob Carlson and Randi Garrett were awarded the Medal of Valor, for what Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters described as going above and beyond the call of duty, when they were fired upon in an incident in May 2018.

Carlson, who also received a Purple Heart Medal, was hit 6 times (a 7th shot hit his weapon), and survived after numerous medical procedures.

Both officers were responding to a call about a problem vehicle at Fairdale Park, when Carlson was shot by David Wolosin, who was killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Last week, the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation and the Natrona County District Attorney, cleared both officers of any wrong-doing in the incident, and a motive for Wolosin's actions was not determined.

Garrett is a 2011 graduate of Kelly Walsh High School.
