Reports from Business Insider say that Walmart is closing stores all over the country.

Luckily, Wyoming isn't one of the states that will be losing the giant retailer.

When I was a younger, if Walmart wasn't there, life would've been much tougher for my family. My parents were already just trying to make ends meet, but had four kids to take care of, and knew they could rely on Walmart to get the supplies we needed.

I know there are people that hate Walmart and will never step foot in one, but there are those of us that would be in dire straights if the store would close.

Not only would we suffer from not being able to get groceries, home goods, clothing, shoes and other necessities a little cheaper, but think of the number of Wyoming jobs that would be lost. Walmart in Wyoming employs 4,892 Wyomingites that make an average of $20.55 per hour. That doesn't include the over 2,000 jobs at Walmart suppliers in Wyoming.

According to the report in Business Insider, the retail giant will be closing stores in 2023, thankfully not here in Wyoming.

Here are the states Walmart will be closing, or have closed already, the 22 stores this year

  • Arkansas
  • Georgia
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois (multiple in the Chicago area)
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Minnesota
  • New Mexico
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • Washington D.C.
  • Wisconsin

That's quite the the number of states that are closing. Not only are the stores closing, but hundreds of workers are losing their jobs.

Walmart says the closed stores were underperforming and aren't financially hitting their mark. The report suggests that the Chicago stores closed, were losing tens of millions of dollars per year.
