Water is always a concern in Wyoming; this year, the concern is even more top of mind with the dry winter and the start of spring.

How big a concern is it for this year?

Both Mills and Evansville have issued notices that restrictions and mandatory water conservation measures have been implemented due to current dry conditions and below-average runoff.

Mills posted on Facebook that beginning on April 15, 2026, the water restrictions will be put into place:

WATER USE RESTRICTIONS

  • Outdoor watering is prohibited between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Residents are strongly encouraged to reduce the irrigation of landscaped areas by at least 50%.
  • Washing of hard surfaces, including driveways, sidewalks, and streets, is prohibited
Water shall not be allowed to run off into streets, gutters, or storm drains

MANDATORY ALTERNATING DAY WATERING SCHEDULE

Residential Properties:

  • Even-numbered addresses: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
  • Odd-numbered addresses: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

Commercial Properties:

  • Watering permitted: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Public Properties:

  • Watering permitted: Monday and Friday only
  • All residents and businesses are urged to exercise caution when using water. Conservation efforts are essential to maintaining an adequate water supply during this period.

ENFORCEMENT

  • Violations of these restrictions may result in penalties under City Ordinances 13.16.060 and 1.03.010, including fines of up to $750.00.

Evansville has issued water conservation tips for the near future.

  • Only water before 10 am and after 6 pm
  • Only water lawns 2-3 times per week
  • Adjust your sprinkler systems to only water grassy areas. Concrete and asphalt won't benefit from watering.
  • Don't water during heavy storms or extremely windy conditions.
  • Keep the grass a bit taller to help it hold moisture.
  • Don't use fertilizer during times of drought.
  • Give trees and shrubs a steady, deep watering.
  • Fix leaks and broken sprinklers to avoid wasting water.
