Which 2 Careers Does U of Wyoming Have Most Notable Alumni?
Wikipedia isn't always a great source for accurate information, because anyone can update most of the pages. Even though it's not the most reliable source, there are some interesting features on the site.
If you were to go look at certain towns, states or even university's Wikipedia page, you'll notice a section called notable. It could be notable people from the town, state or notable alumni from the school.
If you were to look at the University of Wyoming's page, you'll notice a long list under the 'notable alumni' section. You also may notice two careers stick out more than others.
Athletes and politicians.
UW has churned out a large number of both of those careers over the years.
The definition of 'Notable' is:
A prominent, distinguished or important person
A former U.S. Vice President, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, Linebacker from Cincinnati Bengals, a sitting U.S. Senator, Former Major League Baseball Player/ Manager, former Wyoming Governors all attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
'Edurank.org' put out the list of 100 notable alumni from UW, 67 of them have something to do with sports or politics. There are lawyers, musicians, actors, astronomers, military officers, and other folks that attended UW and have found themselves in the public eye. These alumni are a small fraction of the careers that come out of Wyoming's only university.
According to the U.S. News & World Report, in 2021, the top 10 Majors at the University of Wyoming were:
- Psychology
- Nursing
- Education

Looking at this list, it goes to show that sports and politics are a small percentage of the careers that are chosen by those that attend UW.
