With almost 5,000 beers representing over 90 different styles and brewers from around the world competing, it was nice to see Wyoming brewers make their mark at the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship which was recently held in Oxford, Ohio. This competition includes professional breweries and award-winning home-brewers. The U.S. Open judges were from England, Canada and the United States and they announced the results today.

Firestone Walker Brewing from Paso Robles, CA was named Grand National Champion by winning three gold medals, one silver medal and a bronze. And Jackson, Wyoming's Melvin Brewing placed second in the top 10 breweries up from 6th place last year, with 3 gold medals and one bronze. The Cowboy State was also represented by Black Tooth Brewing Company out of Sheridan who dropped out of the top 10 despite scoring 4 bronze medals and by Roadhouse Brewing Co from Wilson, Wy who made their presence known with both a gold and silver medal for their entries.

Melvin Brewing got their medals with an American Style fruit beer called Ch Ch Cherry Bomb as well as an American Wheat Dark by the name of D’Arktagnan and got the hat trick in gold with an Aged Beer named Uncle Ruckus. The brewery added to their total medal count with a bronze medal for their Imperial Stout called American Bronze.

Black Tooth Brewing Company had a tough time getting out of the bronze category but did score 4 bronzes with their English Summer Ale, Caught Looking, their Baltic Porter called Black Eagle Porter, their Wood Barrel Aged Strong Beer,1314 and their Sessions Beer, Sai What.

Roadhouse Brewing made people notice with a Belgian Tripel called Avarice & Greed that took gold and a silver medal winner in the French Belgian Ale category called Innocent & Pure.
