The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced they've relocated an adult male grizzly bear this week. The bear was in the Lander Region and was relocated to just South of Dubois in the Wiggins Fork Drainage.

The grizzly was captured and moved after preying on cattle on a private ranch in Park County. Once a bear is found to be interacting with humans, livestock, or otherwise causing conflict, it's removed from the situation. The hope is that, as in this situation, the bear can be relocated, but in some instances it'll be eliminated.

With every relocation, WGFD consults with multiple agencies to ensure proper measures are taken not only for humans and livestock but also for the bear's survival.

Game and Fish continues to stress the public’s responsibility in bear management and the importance of keeping all attractants, such as food, garbage, horse feed, and birdseed, unavailable to bears. Reducing attractants available to bears reduces human-bear conflicts and, in some cases, relocations.

When you're recreating in bear country, WGFD's Large Carnivore Supervisor, Dr. Dan Thompson, recommends carrying bear spray during a recent episode of Wyoming Hookin' & Huntin' Outdoors.

We're huge proponents of bear spray. We do bear spray giveaways across the state every year, spring and fall now. It's just a good tool to have with you when you're out and about, it works on ALL mammals.
