Tips For Wyomingites To Save On Back-To-School Haircuts
If you've had a haircut lately, you know that, like most things, the price has gone up over the last few years. In 20 years, the cost of a haircut has risen by 75%.
That means a haircut that cost you $20 in 2005 now costs you around $35.
A haircut is one of the toughest things for me to spend money on, especially since I wear a hat most of the time. I remember when I was younger, the local barber shop would cut my hair for $5.50.
With back-to-school looming, families will be heading to get haircuts so the kids are looking sharp on the first day back. I feel sorry for the families that have multiple kids and need to take them in for an ear-lowering session.
When it comes to the amount of a family's budget being spent on haircuts, Wyoming is in the middle of the pack. In Arkansas, the average price for a haircut for men and women is $80.37. Florida has an average price of $97.66.
Wyoming is at #28 on the list, spending 1.18% of our monthly household budget on haircuts.
The price of a haircut depends on several factors.
- How experienced the person cutting your hair is.
- The expenses of your barber shop or salon (rent and utilities)
- Location
- Popularity of your barber or stylist.
- Length of hair.
- Level of difficulty cutting/styling/coloring your hair.
- Added services (shampoo/shave/styling/beard trimming or shaping...etc)
There are a few ways you can save money on haircuts.
- Wait longer in between cuts - Hair grows relatively slowly, and if you wait a couple of weeks longer, it could save you a couple of visits every year.
- Coupons - Salons or Barber Shops may offer coupons for a percentage off a cut, or have programs where, after so many haircuts, you get a free one—every little bit helps.
- Budget - When setting up your budget, put haircuts in the "need" section. Things like color, perms, or other expensive add-ons should be listed under the "want" section. Only get the "want" services when your budget allows.
- Look for hair students - Those training to get into the hair industry need to practice, and hair schools are usually cheaper.
- DIY - It'll take some practice, but buying clippers is an initial investment that pays off in the long run.
