Wyoming’s Top Googled Legal Question Might Surprise You

If you didn't know, Google rules the world. Most of the online programs you use daily are likely connected to Google. Unless you only write things in a notebook with a pencil and never use a smartphone or a computer.

More than likely, when you have a question about an odd-looking mole or if you're not feeling well, you probably jump onto Google and research what's going on. Most people advise against googling symptoms because you're likely to freak yourself out.

Google is also the source many will turn to if they have questions about something in the legal world. Attorneys at Murphy & Prachthauser conducted research using common legal topics across 13 legal categories, then compiled a list of related keywords. Using these keywords, they identified the 300 most frequently asked legal questions nationwide.

Then, of course, they used Google Trends to analyze interest from around the United States over the last 12 months.

You would think a state like Wyoming would search for something like, What happens if you kill an elk out of season, or How many guns can you own, " or " How old do you have to be to carry a weapon, or something like that, but the legal question most commonly asked in Wyoming was in the employment category.

Wyoming's most common question: What is overtime pay?

There were six other states with employment in the most common category, but not all of the questions were the same as those in Wyoming.

• Alabama is also curious about overtime, asking the same as Wyoming.
• Arizona asked what the minimum wage was.
• Washington DC asked how long maternity leave was.
• Oregon wanted to know if the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) was paid.
• South Dakota inquired about the amount of overtime pay.
• The state of Washington wanted to know what the FMLA was.

These are the remaining categories that other states fell into.
