Wyoming’s Surprising Marriage And Divorce Facts
If you watch a movie or TV show from the 1950s or 1960s, you typically see the story of a husband and wife happily married, living in a neighborhood with white picket fences, and it seems as if everyone is happy. According to research released by Bowling Green State University, that's a bunch of bologna.
The divorce rate for women soared in the 1970s and 1980s, nearly tripling the numbers in the 60s. Looking at the numbers, it seems that after the 'Leave It To Beaver' days, the ladies were sick and tired of being at home all the time. After the crazy 80s, the divorce numbers for women have dropped back to smaller than they were in the 70s, to 14.6 per 1,000 married women.

Even though the numbers have gone down, the number of times a person gets married has surged. According to data, many people have been married 3 or more times, and Wyoming is among the states with the highest percentages. According to DivorceRate.org, divorce is quite common here, with 3.4 divorces per 1,000 residents.
The good news is that if the married couple can last until they hit their mid-fifties, they have a better chance of sticking it out, with only 11.8 per 1,000 getting divorced.
The bad news is that the younger the couple, the higher the divorce rate. Couples who marry between the ages of 15 and 24 have a high chance of splitting up. 19.7 per 1,000 married women in that group get divorced.
Those numbers are pretty high, and after a rough divorce, it may be hard to think about marriage again, right? Nope, not in Wyoming. 5.7% of the population here in the Cowboy State have been married three or more times.
Only Arkansas (7.6%), Oklahoma (6.5%), Alabama (5.9%), and Tennessee (5.8%) have a higher percentage of three or more marriages. Yikes, you'd think you'd think long and hard about whether you're cut out for marriage after a couple of them, right?
Getting divorced in the Equality State, if it's uncontested, will only set you back $400 to $600 on average. If you go the Do-it-yourself route, it may only cost you $100 to $150. Although when the fingers start pointing, and it's not a civilized case, it could be a drawn-out and expensive mess.
So, if you're thinking about getting married, think LONG AND HARD about it, to make sure it's what you want. Declining the proposal is likely to be much cheaper in the long run.
