Wyoming Camps Turn Kids Into Confident Rock Climbers
Growing up in a Midwest state where living in the mountains was only a dream, going mountain climbing was never on my radar. Now living in a Mountain State, it really makes a big difference in the options that you have available, like mountain climbing camps through the summer. I feel that if I have that opportunity when I was a kid, I definitely would have taken it up.
Lucky for kids who live here in Wyoming, there are opportunities to learn rock climbing from skilled instructors. Wyoming Mountain Guides offers multiple-day youth climbing camps designed to teach kids the fundamentals of climbing. They'll teach safety, techniques, communication skills, and other important aspects of climbing that the kids will need to improve their skills.
Here are some of the highlighted areas the camps will teach:
Safety: participants will learn the foundations of bouldering, sport climbing, and trad climbing, with an emphasis on mitigating objective hazards and developing competency in spotting, knot-tying, and top-rope belaying.
Sustainability: participants will learn to use the resource sustainably and practice the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace in the wild.
Supportive behavior: participants will learn to support one another throughout the camp. Climbing is a demanding activity physically, mentally, and emotionally, and as such is a great way for kids to challenge themselves.
