Wyoming is a winter wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts, including some local lunatics who really live on the wild side.

Here's our completely unofficial list of the weirdest and wildest winter sports in the Cowboy State.

1. Speed Flying - Arguably the most extreme winter sport on the planet, speed riding combines skiing and paragliding for what some daredevils consider to be the ultimate high.

2. Ski Joring - It's like a rodeo on skis as riders race through obstacles and fly over jumps while being pulled by a horse. There are several Ski Joring events across the state, including the annual Winter Festival in Sundance, Wyoming and Pinedale Winter Carnival.

3. Cutter Races - A Cowboy State tradition for nearly 100 years, this event originated in Thayne, Wyoming, in the 1920s. The first Cutter Racing Association was formed in 1948 and has since spread to several western states. Cutter Racing remains a popular pasttime in Wyoming, with annual events in Afton and Jackson.

4. The Pine Creek Cardboard Derby - Every year in March, hundreds of skiiers and snowboarders flock to the Pine Creek Resort for the annual Winter Carnival. The highlight each year is the Cardboard Derby, where contestants build their own sleds using only cardboard and duct tape.

5. Gelande Quaffing - One of the greatest drinking games ever was invented in Teton Village when a group of thirsty ski bums were stuck inside a bar during a blizzard for an entire weekend. In March, teams from all over the world travel to Teton Village to compete in the annual Gelande Quaffing World Championship.
