A multi-sport star just entering her junior year of high school, Kelly Walsh’s Finley Klinger is hoping to continue to achieve at a high level.

As a sophomore last year, she finished runner-up in not one but two fall sports. She took second place at the No. 1 singles position at the Wyoming High School Tennis State Championships last September. Then, four weeks later Klinger came in second place at the Class 4A Wyoming High School Cross Country State Championships.

She also placed in the top 15 in three individual events and on a relay team at the 2020 Wyoming High School Indoor Track State Championships last March in Gillette. That included a fifth-place performance in the 3200-meters. Of course, her outdoor track season was lost because of the virus.

WyoPreps’ David Settle spoke with Finley Klinger on Monday in the video above. Klinger talked about her passion for both tennis and cross country, why she competes in both, and how she does her best to prepare for both. Klinger stated that her mindset doesn’t change between the two sports. She also talked about her 2020 tennis debut and what she needs to improve on, and so much more, including top competitors around the state.

Klinger had a successful debut in her first official match of the 2020 high school season. She beat her opponent from Laramie, 6-0, 6-0.

Kelly Walsh returns to action on the tennis court with three duals on Friday and Saturday.
